Severe weather has struck eastern Australia with full force this week, as unrelenting rainfall triggered widespread flooding across several regions. The calamity has affected more than 50,000 residents, forcing evacuations, damaging infrastructure, and claiming the lives of at least **two individuals**, with **two others still missing**.

Meteorological authorities report that some areas received more than **300 millimeters (nearly 12 inches) of rain** in just 24 hours—a volume not seen in over a decade. Rivers have broken their banks, and flash floods have inundated homes, roads, and farmland, leaving emergency crews scrambling to reach those in need.

State and federal emergency services have deployed rescue teams, helicopters, and flood boats to evacuate residents in high-risk zones. Relief centers have been established in local community halls and schools, offering shelter and supplies to displaced families.

"We are dealing with a serious and evolving natural disaster," said Emergency Management Minister Jane Dalton. "Our focus remains on saving lives and providing immediate support to the communities hit hardest."

Authorities are urging people in vulnerable regions to evacuate early and heed all official warnings. With more rain forecast over the coming days, the risk of landslides and further flash flooding remains high.

Climate experts link the severity of this weather event to changing climate patterns and rising sea temperatures, which have intensified Australia’s already volatile weather systems.

The Australian government has pledged immediate disaster relief funding and is coordinating with local councils to assess long-term recovery needs, including infrastructure rebuilding and mental health support for affected residents.
