MANILA, Philippines — In a bold move signaling a significant shift in governance, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has requested all cabinet secretaries in his administration to tender their resignations. The call comes as part of a planned “reset” to reorganize and streamline the executive branch, aimed at improving public service delivery and restoring public trust.

The announcement was made during a Malacañang meeting earlier this week, where the President stressed the importance of performance and accountability among key officials. A Palace spokesperson clarified that the resignations would allow Marcos Jr. to evaluate his cabinet’s effectiveness and potentially reshuffle or replace officials as needed.

“The President is committed to building a government that delivers efficiently, transparently, and in the best interests of the Filipino people,” the spokesperson stated. “This move reflects a proactive approach to governance in response to both internal and external challenges.”

The decision comes amid growing public pressure to address persistent issues such as inflation, transportation woes, bureaucratic inefficiencies, and corruption concerns. The President’s allies argue that this reset will allow a revitalized team to push forward with national priorities, including digital transformation, infrastructure development, and economic recovery.

However, critics have voiced concerns that the move could cause instability or be used to oust officials who are less politically aligned with the administration. Observers say the coming weeks will reveal whether the reset results in real reform or is merely a symbolic gesture.

As of today, several cabinet secretaries have submitted their resignations, though it remains to be seen how many will be reappointed or replaced.
